Tottenham have profited from major injustice as Harry Kane controversy analysed – expert

Paul Robinson has claimed Tottenham should not have been awarded a penalty against Everton on Saturday (15 October).

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said Harry Kane was “a bit theatrical” in the way he went over in the second half.

As shown on Sky Sports (15 October), Kane, 29, went over inside the 18-yard box shortly after Jordan Pickford spilled a shot from Matt Doherty.

Referee Paul Tierney pointed to the spot and VAR official Andre Marriner did not deem his colleague to have made a clear and obvious error.

Kane scored the resulting penalty kick to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The moment would prove decisive with Everton going on to lose 2-0.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the second-half penalty incident, Robinson said: “I do not think it was a penalty.

“It was a bit theatrical from Kane, in all honesty.

“From a Spurs point of view, you are going to want the penalty. It is one of those that is a soft one. There was simply not enough evidence to overturn it from VAR.

“Everton will feel hard done by though because it was a decisive moment in the game.”
