European giants eye summer swoop for Tottenham star – report
By Russell Edge
Tottenham striker Harry Kane is being lined up for a summer transfer move to European giants Real Madrid, according to a report.
Spanish football website Don Balon claim that Real manager Zinedine Zidane is keen to add to his centre forward options sooner rather than later, and views the England man as the ideal forward to support the likes of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo at the Bernabeu.
However they state that such a move would only materialise next summer, with Los Blancos looking to secure Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, who has less than a year on his existing contract with the Gunners, during the winter transfer window.
Kane, who finished last season as the Premier League’s top scorer with 29 goals, is contracted at Spurs until 2022, having signed a new deal in December 2016.
Football Insider verdict
As Tottenham have learned the hard way, when Real Madrid come knocking, players find it hard to refuse the temptation. However, Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino must learn from the lessons of Gareth Bale and Luka Modric and try keep hold of Kane no matter what. Whether that is achievable will come down to their on field success. If Spurs can convince Kane they are worthy title challengers in the Premier League and that they can compete with the very best on the European stage, then they might just be able persuade him to stay. However, if it turns out to be another year of disappointment, then a move to the Bernabeu may be too good an opportunity to turn down for the striker.
In other Tottenham news, Graeme Souness has said that there is a Premier League striker better than Kane.
