Tottenham scraping bottom of the barrel after 'embarrassing' manager twist - pundit
Alan Hutton has claimed Tottenham are now scraping the bottom of the barrel in the hunt for a new manager.
The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted the search for Jose Mourinho’s replacement had become “embarrassing” after talks with Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso fell through.
As reported by the Daily Mail (June 19th), Tottenham have failed, for one reason or another, to lure any of seven manager targets to north London.
Talks with Fonseca reportedly broke down last week before the board pulled out of discussions with Gattuso.
Hutton suggested Spurs had reached the bottom of their manager shortlist.
As such, he admitted he did not know where they would turn next.

Asked if he had known anything like Spurs’ manager hunt, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “No, never. The worst bit is we’re talking about a top side here that are really struggling.
“It becomes a little bit embarrassing. I know Tottenham, they won’t want to air everything in the press but for whatever reason it gets out. It just seems like everywhere they turn, they can’t get it over the line.
“It looks to me that they’re down at the bottom of their list. They went through their top targets and have not been able to get them, and then it’s been: ‘Right, okay, who’s the next one? Who’s the next one?’
“You just don’t foresee this at all at a top club. Where they turn to next, I don’t know. That’s my real opinion. I don’t know where they go from here.
“They’ve got the director of football in now so you’d like to say he’s got a big say in what’s going to happen moving forward.
“I just don’t see where they go from here. I don’t know where they turn to.”
