When it comes to developing young English talent, Tottenham are beginning to take the lead over their with their numerous success stories.
From the sensational rise of Harry Kane to the more recent revelation of Harry Winks, the Spurs academy has started to show signs that it deserves to be recognised among the most prestigious names among British football.
Not only has the academy been brilliant, but Mauricio Pochettino has done an excellent job of helping young stars transition into the senior side, whether home grown, such as Winks and Kane, or brought in from elsewhere, Eric Dier and Dele Alli two prime examples of their successful recruitment.
However, developing top young talent means that other sides will start to eye up prospective stars and poach them away – and that is exactly what seems to be happening with hot prospect Reo Griffiths this summer.
The 17-year-old has been in red hot form, netting an impressive 34 goals for Tottenham’s youth sides this season, and that has reportedly raised the attentions of several European sides including RB Leipzig, who have former Spurs senior figure Paul Mitchell as their head of recruitment.
However, ESPN FC claim that the interest from elsewhere has resulted in the north London side setting up imminent talks to try and negotiate a deal which would see the youngster put pen to paper on his first professional contract.
While handing a deal to a 17-year-old might be risky business, it covers Spurs off from receiving a nominal compensation were he to go elsewhere, and with so many keen on his capture, having him commit could even ignite a bidding war for his signing.
Either way, getting him to agree terms to a contract will only end in success for Tottenham, who either have a bright young starlet in their side for years to come, or a decent transfer fee in their pocket.
