Tottenham set for revenue hike after off-field deal agreed – Stefan Borson

Tottenham will continue generating revenue from their new stadium after being granted planning permission to host more non-football-related events.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider he expects the north London giants to continue being the “best in class” when it comes to turning a profit from their stadium.

Spurs revealed on 2 August they have received planning permission from Haringey Council to almost double the amount of non-football-related events they can host at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Beyonce and Lady Gaga are among the high-profile acts to have performed at the state-of-the-art facility since it opened in 2019.

Spurs were previously permitted to hold 16 non-football events – such as concerts, boxing and NFL at the stadium – but they can now host 30 events per year.

Tottenham’s commercial revenue rose from £183.5million in 2022 to £227.7million in 2023 as they continue to cash in on opportunities away from football.

Tottenham to lead way until Man United build new stadium

Borson revealed he expects the north London club to continue leading the way in that respect until Manchester United potentially build their new stadium.

He told Football Insider: “It’s a bit of incremental revenue and potential profit they will get from hosting more events.

“We know that they are the best run in terms of that additional matchday revenue above and beyond the football matchday.

“They have got the perfect stadium and location for it.

“I would expect them to continue to be best in class in that respect until Man United’s new £3billion super-stadium, which might compete with them.

“But until then, I would expect Tottenham to continue to do very well in generating revenue and probably some profit from the new stadium.”
