Medical expert reveals why Ben Davies is wearing protective equipment as Tottenham images emerge

Tottenham defender Ben Davies is likely only wearing protective equipment as a precautionary measure.

That is the view of medical expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in injury and data analysis.

Davies, 29, played the full second half of Spurs’ 1-1 draw with Sevilla in South Korea last Saturday (16 July).

But as quoted by The Athletic after the clash, Antonio Conte revealed that the Welsh defender complained of ankle pain after the final whistle.

Photos shared by the Spurs Web on Twitter last Sunday (17 July) show Davies wearing a protective boot on his left leg.

Conte’s side kick off their 2022-23 campaign against Southampton in just over two weeks’ time on 6 August.

Dinnery does not believe that Davies’ protective boot is a sign of any serious injury that could derail the start of his campaign.

“You always want to err on the side of caution,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“Unless you can get him away to be assessed, you can’t take any chances, particularly not at this stage in the season.

“I wouldn’t read too much into the fact that the ankle has been fixed and protected. My understanding is that it doesn’t look to be too serious.

“Fingers crossed those imaging results will come back positive and we’ll see him back with the group soon.”

Spurs have friendlies against Roma and Rangers lined up before the start of the season.

It is unclear at this stage whether Davies will be fit for either match.
