Winks backed to sign for ‘top foreign team’ in January after Tottenham update – pundit

Harry Winks has what it takes to be a “key player” for a “top foreign team” if he leaves Tottenham this January.

So says ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 25-year-old Spurs midfielder’s future.

The Times reported on 6 October that Winks is keen to leave Spurs on loan in January and is open to a move abroad.

Premier League sides Brighton, Aston Villa and Everton are also claimed to be interested in securing his services.

The 10-cap England international is under contract with Spurs until 2024 and last signed an extension in July 2019.

He has started just once in the Premier League this season, and his only other appearance in the top-flight was a one-minute substitute appearance.

This site revealed back in June that Spurs value Winks at around £30million.

Kenny claims that the Tottenham academy graduate should snub domestic interest and pursue a move overseas.

“You see more and more English players go abroad these days,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“Tammy Abraham has gone away to Roma and done really well. He’s back in the England squad and so is Tomori at AC Milan.

“He was in a similar situation to Winks and how he’s the main man. Harry has got the potential to go and be a key player for a top foreign side.

“I think his style of play would suit the Spanish or Italian league as well. So why not go and make that step?”
