‘Tottenham target Sunderland’s Dennis Cirkin ahead of shock reunion’
Tottenham could be reignited with a familiar face in Dennis Cirkin as Thomas Frank makes plan for the new season.
Spurs are preparing for the 2025/26 campaign with Frank in charge following the decision to axe Ange Postecoglou as head coach.
The Australian boss led Tottenham to glory in the Europa League, thus securing Champions League football for the upcoming campaign.
As a result, the north London side are now under pressure to comply with UEFA’s rules in order to compete in their premier competition.
The rules state that Spurs must have four ‘club-trained players’ in their squad – someone who has been on a club’s books for three entire seasons or 36 months between the ages of 15 and 21.
Currently, Tottenham only have one.
As a result, Frank could be looking to bring a ex-Lilywhite back to the club.

Spurs eyeing reunion with Sunderland star
In order to rectify the situation, Tottenham need to add three ‘club-trained’ players with Kyle Walker-Peters among the players being considered.
Sunderland left-back Dennis Cirkin is another one being monitored, with the 23-year-old showing his top flight credentials by helping the Black Cats to promotion to the Premier League.

Writing for Football London [May 20], Tottenham correspondent Alastair Gold said: “Spurs have looked at the past in bringing back 23-year-old left-back Dennis Cirkin, who has impressed at Sunderland.
“He made 39 appearances this season as the Black Cats returned to the Premier League through the play-offs and he has 12 months remaining on his contract.
“Tottenham are in line for a sell-on percentage for the player if he leaves this summer, meaning they would get him for a cheaper price, although a buy-back clause reportedly expired last year.”

Cirkin would offer a good squad option for Tottenham
A move for Cirkin might not be top of Tottenham’s priority list, but it could certainly prove to be a shrewd move.
Destiny Udogie is the club’s first-choice left-back, while Ben Davies has recently extended his contract despite transfer interest from Wrexham.
However a move for Cirkin would offer crucial quality and depth to a side who will be challenging on all fronts.
Sunderland will not want to lose the 23-year-old given the big role he played in their promotion via the play-offs and his undoubted ceiling in terms of potential.
But at the end of the day money talks and if Spurs make an offer that is too good to turn down then the Wearsiders will have to roll with the punches.
Meanwhile Iconic commentator Ian Darke exclusively told Mackem News that Sunderland could move for Liverpool defender Joe Gomez.
