Report: Tottenham teenager is plan B for rival PL club, January loan is an option

By Harry Sykes

Josh Onomah has emerged as a transfer plan B target of Hull in the January window, according to a report.

The Telegraph claim the Premier League strugglers are weighing up the Tottenham teenager as a possible signing when the winter window opens on Sunday.

It is said that Hull want attacking reinforcements to take some of the creative burden off leading scorer Robert Snodgrass.

The report states that Newcastle’s Aleksandar Mitrovic is a leading target for Mike Phelan’s side and also outlines some plan B options.

These include Middlesbrough striker Jordan Rhodes, who has been ignored for most of the season, and Spurs attacking midfielder Onomah.

Hull scored twice against Everton on Friday to secure a notable 2-2 draw, through goals from Michael Dawson and the in-form Snodgrass,

If lifted Phelan’s team off the foot of the Premier League table, to one place and one point above bottom club Swansea, but they are three points off safety and mired in a relegation battle.

The unofficial Tottenham academy Twitter account recently claimed that Spurs are set to snub all January loan offers for Onomah, 19, because manager Mauricio Pochettino “wants Onomah fully embedded in his philosophy without a different coach interfering with his development”.

The England Under-21 international has been a member of the senior squad for the last 12 months and has made 28 first-team appearances, including eight this season.

But Onomah has started only two Spurs games this term, both in the League Cup, and his four Premier League appearances have all come as a substitute.

Pochettino could now have a decision to make on whether to wrap the youngster in cotton wool or allow him to develop his game elsewhere.

Spurs have earned a reputation for producing and developing some of the best young talents in England in recent seasons.

Harry Kane, Ryan Mason, Harry Winks, Nabil Bentaleb, Tom Carroll, Danny Rose and Crystal Palace summer signing Andros Townsend all graduated from the Tottenham academy into the first-team squad, while Eric Dier and Dele Alli have taken huge strides in a very short time at White Hart Lane.

In other Tottenham transfer news, fans have reacted after the club agreed the terms of a 21-year-old move in January.
