Finance guru suggests the real reason stopping Levy from spending at Tottenham this month
Tottenham fans should not expect to see Daniel Levy hand Antonio Conte significant funds to spend on new signings this month.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ conservative recruitment policy.
Per The Sun last Friday (14 January), Conte has told Levy that he could quit Spurs if his ambitions in the transfer market are not matched this month.

Spurs, who had a net spend of approximately £30million over the summer (2021), are yet to enter the market in January.
And Plumley suggests that it would be a radical departure from his usual methods if Levy sanctioned major investment in the coming weeks.
“I’d love to ask Levy about this,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“This has always been the strategy at the club in the last few years, in many ways.
“We know Levy has a hard stance on transfers and wage negotiations. Anyone that watched the Spurs’ Amazon docuementary will have seen that.
“He knows what he’s prepared to offer and he’s a hard negotiator. So what’s stopping them from spending big?
“In many ways, that’s linked to the way he runs the club. And I’m not saying that’s a positive or a negative. It’s just his strategy.
“If you look at the numbers, they have made a loss for the last couple of years because of the pandemic.
“But in general terms, they have been a profit-making club in recent years. They have also had quite strong cash reserves.
“The problem with that is that those are the two things, cash and profit, that normally dictate whether or not you can spend in the transfer market.
“Fans will say they should be spending that money on the team. The stadium debt is key to this.
“But they have got to maintain good on-pitch performances to match the potential of the stadium.
“Pandemic aside, they’ve got the abilty to spend if they want to. But are they prepared to change their stance? For the past five to 10 years, they haven’t.“

Spurs are currently 6th in the league but will move in the top four if they win their games in hand.
They are next in action Leicester City on Wednesday (`19 January).
