Tottenham tipped to sell Dele Alli and ‘make waves’ in January as Levy U-turn reported

Alex McLeish has tipped Tottenham to sell Dele Alli in January to give Nuno Espirito Santo funds to spend.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland manager claimed the 25-year-old could make Spurs “a lot of money” to reinvest.

As reported by the Athletic (28th October), Tottenham would be more than willing to cash in on Alli.

The decision to sell would represent a U-turn from chairman Daniel Levy.

He reportedly blocked both permanent and loan exits for Alli both last summer and back in January.

As revealed by Football Insider in September, Spurs do not expect the attacking midfielder to be sold until next summer given how much his value has plummetted.

However, McLeish suggested Spurs could use funds from Alli’s exit to revitalise their squad.

McLeish told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “There’s a wee bit of staleness about them and some of the players. They don’t seem to able to get above a certain level in some of the positions.

“Dele Alli, Jose Mourinho didn’t have him as a first choice either.

“You ask yourself what’s happened to Dele Alli’s form? He was a magnificent, young, up and coming player.

“Dele had a wee flurry a few months ago. In last week’s game he wasn’t the same Dele Alli. Certainly not the one we’ve seen over the last three of four years.

“Maybe position-wise, he doesn’t feel he’s able to get the best out of his game. The freedom, the third-man running, the runs into the box – he seems to have lost a wee bit of that. Those kind of technical abilities that he had.

“Possibly a move is the best thing for him. These guys maybe have to move on and start again, a fresh start.

“I’m sure he’d make a lot of money for the club. It might give Nuno the collateral to spend and bring in his type of player.

“He’s probably got an idea of some players he can bring in. But maybe, at the moment, he’s not able to do that.

“We’ll see in the January window if Spurs are making some waves.”

In other news, a pundit has questioned the “attitude” of the Tottenham squad after Nuno’s fitness claim.
