Tottenham tipped to sell Dele Alli to newly-promoted club after source reveal

Noel Whelan has backed Dele Alli to kickstart his career with a move away from Tottenham in 2022.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 25-year-old could leave for a newly-promoted side next season.

As revealed by Football Insider (28th September), the north Londoners are more likely to sell Alli next summer rather than in the January transfer window.

The midfielder is said to be “difficult to manage” as well as being labelled an “inconsistent trainer” by club sources.

Alli was close to securing a loan move to PSG in January 2021.

However, the switch fell through with Daniel Levy holding out for a £3million loan fee.

The 37-cap England man was hooked by new Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo at half-time during their embarrassing 3-1 derby defeat against Arsenal on Sunday.

Whelan believes Alli will shine if he gets a “fresh start” – even if it comes via a move to a promoted side.

“It’s very difficult to see why it’s gone wrong – it could have been the fall out with Mourinho which led to him being frozen out in the first place,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“I think he needed a fresh start while Mourinho was there, but it’s dragged on.

“Someone will take a chance on him. Whether it’s abroad or even if it’s a team promoted to the Premier League.

“I still believe there’s a player in him, but it’s just gone a little bit stale at Tottenham.”

Alli made just seven league starts last season, failing to notch a goal.

His finest form in a Tottenham shirt came during the 2016/17 season.

The midfielder netted 18 goals and registered nine assists in 37 league games.
