Tottenham tipped to sign Heung-min Son ally in ‘massive’ transfer claim – pundit

Noel Whelan has tipped Tottenham to prioritise the signing of a new attacking midfielder this summer.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a creative spark to help Harry Kane and Heung-min Son would be “massive” target for Antonio Conte.

The Telegraph report (20 April) Conte will tell Daniel Levy he wants six new additions to bolster his side this summer.

The Italian reportedly wants a new centre-back, a new right back, two midfielders, a forward and a backup goalkeeper.

Whelan suggested a creative playmaker and a top-class centre-half would be his top targets this summer.

Asked where he thought Spurs need to prioritise, Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Another midfield player, a creative midfield player, definitely. To sit behind Harry Kane and Heung-min Son.

“I think a creative midfield player will be a massive one on the list for Conte.

“Also another centre-half. They’ve got to be looking at that defensive position. Then you’re looking across the line, aren’t you?

“Is he convinced about Sessegnon and the full-backs at the club? Are they good enough for him?

“That’d be another one he’s probably fighting himself with in his mind, even though there have been better performances from the full-backs it’s problem.

“So a creative midfielder, definitely. A centre-back, definitely. Then looking at that full-back area.”

January signing Dejan Kulusevski has made an impressive impact in the final third since joining the club.

The Juventus loanee has scored three goals and contributed six assists in 14 appearances this season.

Spurs also have the likes of Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura as wingers but lack recognised creative options in the middle of the park.
