‘Tottenham to buy back Harry Kane after Bayern Munich development’

Harry Kane could return to Tottenham in the near future once he has fulfilled his ambition at Bayern Munich, believes Paul Merson.

Kane of course spent much of his career with Spurs, becoming the second-highest goalscorer in Premier League history during his time with the club.

The striker departed Tottenham in the summer of 2023, with Kane completing his move to Bayern Munich where he has continued to flourish in front of goal.

Now Merson has identified one way in which the England captain could make a return to his former club, following the latest updates on his future.

Harry Kane tipped for Tottenham return amid Ange Postecoglou struggles

Earlier this week, it emerged that Kane has a release clause in his Bayern contract which will drop to £54million next winter.

Merson has now suggested that Tottenham may be able to take advantage of that to bring the striker back to the club, but only if he wins a trophy with his current side first.

Speaking on Sky Sports about the clubs who might be able to afford that release clause, the former England international – who also touted his former club Arsenal to look into a deal – said: “When you’re Harry Kane and you’re there and they go right you can go for £54million, there’s only a couple of teams that can buy him.

“Arsenal? Man City are not going to buy him – Man United? What you hear about Man United with the Tel situation, I don’t know if that’s true but that was worrying that they wouldn’t pay the loan deal.

“That’s it and then maybe Tottenham might buy him back, but he’ll have to win something here, at Bayern Munich to go back to Tottenham, because if he don’t go win anything at Bayern Munich, you’re not going to go back to Tottenham to win nothing.”

Harry Kane reunion would ease Daniel Levy pressure at Spurs

Football Insider Verdict

Kane and Bayern currently sit top of the Bundesliga table, six points clear of second place Bayer Leverkusen with 17 games of the season to go.

If they are able to see that out, it could be worth Spurs looking into a deal to bring the striker back to the club.

This has been a dismal season for the North London club, which has piled the pressure onto manager Ange Postecoglou amid fan claims he could be sacked.

However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has also come under fire recently for not putting together a squad capable of winning trophies, even when he has a talent such as Kane available.

Daniel Levy could make a statement if he re-signs Harry Kane

Bringing the striker back to North London would surely ease some of the pressure on Levy, considering the major boost it would represent to the club on and off the pitch.

Kane will surely not leave Bayern for Spurs if he has not won a trophy – something he is still yet to do in his career – given he has a much better chance of doing it with the German side.

But if he manages to achieve that feat, returning to the Premier League to break Alan Shearer’s record of 260 goals in the division might also appeal to him, and doing it with Tottenham could be particularly tempting.
