Tottenham to ‘explore January signings’ amid Lewis family claim – ‘it’s one to watch right now’
Tottenham have been told to support manager Thomas Frank in the January transfer window if they want to qualify for Europe next season.
That is according to ex-Aberdeen and Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Frank can be the manager to lead the club for the long-term.
Frank has been coming under scrutiny at Spurs with fans left unimpressed by his style of football, and the club have only won once in their last six in all competitions.
Spurs’ 4-1 defeat at Arsenal has increased frustrations towards Frank, and proven that the club must invest if they are to close the gap on their rivals and current Premier League leaders.
Spurs will have to spend in January
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insists that the £100million cash injection into Spurs in October must be spent in January.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness hopes that Spurs do not do the easy option and sack Frank amid their current form and performances.
He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Spurs do need some reinforcements in January and they’re going to be in the market.
“So we talked about how they’ve put some more money in, you know, that the Lewis family puts more money in the other week and I think it’s going to have to be spent in January and I think Thomas Frank’s going to have to get something moving and fight hard for those European places.
“The table is still very compressed. I mean, there’s no doubt it’s a very tight table right now. And so if he can make some moves if he can put three or four wins together. But I think he wants to freshen up the squad and get his stamp on it.
“And I hope that the Lewis group and the new chief executive Vinai are not going to be thinking about making a move at the manager level because I think Frank is high quality and is a long-term bet and he’s just got to put his own stamp on this group of players. So anyway, it’s one to be watching right now.”

Attacking reinforcements wanted at Spurs
One player Spurs are chasing in January is Man City winger Savinho, with £50m potentially enough to secure a deal.
Frank wanted Savinho in the summer transfer window, but a £60m move for the 21-year-old did not transpire.
Spurs want to add to their forward options in January amid injuries and a lack of form across the front line.
In the Premier League this season, Richarlison is currently the club’s top scorer with five goals in 12 games.
