Tottenham to ‘reluctantly’ accept huge Son Heung-min offer

Son Heung-min’s legendary spell at Tottenham is in line to come to an end this summer if the club receive a huge offer for the winger.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that this summer may be the “ideal opportunity for Spurs to cash in” on the 32-year-old.

Since joining from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son has gone on to make 454 appearances, scoring 173 times in the process.

But last season was the South Koreans’ least productive in North London since his first, scoring 11 times and assisting 11 more.

Football Insider exclusively revealed Tottenham had decided to sack Ange Postecoglou on 1 June, with the club then announcing their decision on 6 June [Tottenham].

With uncertainty surrounding the club and the need to strengthen ahead of a Champions League run next season, Spurs could part ways with one of the best players to wear a white shirt.

Son Heung-min sale could be huge boost to ‘balance the books’

Despite still being one of their most productive players in terms of output, Postecoglou’s decision to omit Son from the starting lineup for Tottenham’s Europa League final victory over Man United was telling.

The Australian boss chose to start Richarlison over the South Korean, something that would have been unthinkable just one season prior.

Speaking on the new Inside Track, O’Rourke revealed that whilst Son was likely very happy at the club, a huge offer for the 32-year-old would be difficult to say no to.

“You’ll have to take a huge offer from the Saudi Pro League to convince Son to make the move away from North London, and also for Tottenham to sell him,” the transfer correspondent told Football Insider.

“From the business side of things, if you look at it from that perspective, this could be the ideal opportunity for Spurs to cash in, but a lot will depend on what the player himself thinks as well.

“I think everything’s up in the air with Son right now. I’m sure the player himself is happy at Tottenham, and ideally, he would like to stay.

“But if a big offer comes in and it allows Spurs to balance the books with FFP and maybe generate funds for their own transfer plans, it’s something they would reluctantly agree to.”

Tottenham renegotiating deal for Son successor Mathys Tel

Having joined on loan from Bayern Munich to much fanfare, Mathys Tel’s time in North London has been underwhelming.

The French forward flitted between striker and left-wing, showing little in either position and the 20-year-old managed just three goals in 20 appearances.

However, O’Rourke revealed to Football Insider on 3 June that Tottenham were looking to negotiate a “cut-price deal” for Tel with Bayern.

Spurs have a £45million option in his loan deal, but there are no plans for the North London side to activate that clause.
