‘Tottenham to sell James Maddison this summer’ – Fans erupt at latest update
Tottenham supporters are ready to part ways with James Maddison after the midfielder’s latest blow amidst a difficult campaign in North London.
The 28-year-old scored during the vital 3-1 Europa League win over Bodo/Glimt, only to be replaced after 65 minutes, and was not available for the 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday, 4 May.
Despite a slow start to the campaign, and Spurs struggling across all competitions in general, the attacking midfielder has still managed to notch 12 goals and 10 assists in 45 appearances.
His goal contributions, cutting-edge passes, and late runs into the box were clearly missed for the trip to the London Stadium, and now Ange Postecoglou faces more time without the star playmaker.
James Maddison blow emerges at Tottenham
Writing on X (7 May), Paul O’Keefe reported: “James Maddison will miss the rest of the season and could face up to 3 months on the sidelines.”
With a Europa League second leg clash coming up, and potentially a final after that if the Lilywhites can keep hold of the lead, the injury blow comes at an awful time for Postecoglou, who remains under pressure as Tottenham boss.
Dejan Kulusevski has now returned to the Tottenham squad, with the Sweden international expected to pick up where Maddison left off, but fans are clearly more frustrated than upset by the news.
Spurs supporters ready to cash in on injury-plagued midfielder
While the England international is clearly a talented player, especially when firing on all cylinders, his injury record has not been the best during his time in the Premier League.
He missed another five matches earlier in the campaign, having also been sidelined for 13 games during the 2023/24 campaign, and that is without mentioning his absences for Leicester City.
Fans, therefore, are ready to sell Maddison this summer rather than wait for him to recover from injury, with one supporter stating he is “too injury-prone” and has “a history of knee injuries”.
Another included Micky van de Ven in his hit-out at the Spurs star, suggesting that both players have too many problems and that now is the time to “let them go”.
