Tottenham told to agree Jordan Pickford deal – ‘there’s a 100 per cent deal to be done’, says pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed there is “100% a deal to be done” between Everton and Tottenham for Jordan Pickford as the shot-stopper’s contract runs down.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old “deserves to be fighting for honours” after back-to-back seasons fighting relegation at Goodison Park.

According to TEAMtalk (8 November), Tottenham want to replace Hugo Lloris at the end of the season – and are targeting Pickford and Brentford ‘keeper David Raya as possible replacements.

Meanwhile, The Sun claim (19 November) fellow Londoners Chelsea will look at Pickford during the World Cup as Graham Potter’s side look for a new first-choice shot-stopper.

The Everton star, who has amassed 45 England caps, played a key role in saving the Merseysiders from relegation to the Championship last season.

Whelan insisted the Toffees could do with the transfer fee Pickford could generate in order to make signings of their own.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “When you’re losing a player of Lloris’ experience and quality, you’ve got to look for that international-grade replacement.

“I can’t see Jordan Pickford staying at Everton. He’s been loyal to them.

“They stayed in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth last season, it’s going to be another battle this season.

“I think these kinds of top-quality players deserve to be at a top club.

“Pickford deserves to be fighting for honours. Spurs haven’t quite done that just yet, but it’d be a massive step in the right direction.

Tottenham

“Top players should be playing in the Champions League – and Everton aren’t going to do that.

“They need the money, as well, to make signings of their own. There is 100% a deal to be done here.”
