Tottenham told to complete Jordan Pickford signing after ‘big’ claim – expert

Alan Hutton has urged Tottenham to sign Jordan Pickford over David Raya.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender suggested Pickford has more to offer the London club in terms of experience.

According to the Telegraph (8 January), the Lilywhites are tracking Brentford keeper Raya as they search for Hugo Lloris’ long-term successor.

Lloris turned 36 last month and announced his retirement from international football yesterday (9 January).

Pickford is another goalkeeper Tottenham have been considering amid the uncertainty surrounding Lloris’ long-term future.

Both Pickford and Raya are contracted at their current club until 2024 which is when Lloris’ deal also expires.

Antonio Conte’s side are keen to bring in a long-term replacement for the Frenchman in the summer.

When asked which of the pair would be a better fit at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Hutton told Football Insider:They are both good options.

David Raya has been excellent for Brentford. But if you look at Pickford, his experience, his big game know-hows, he has always done well for England.

There is pressure to play for Tottenham, that is something he will be used to.

He is of a good age as well. So for me I think I would go towards Pickford.

From a Tottenham point of view, to have someone through the door with that experience who is probably going to be your future number one, is not as much of a risk.
