Tottenham told to pull the plug on Cristian Romero transfer – expert
Cristian Romero is a ‘huge’ player for Tottenham and the club should do everything they can to ward off any interest.
That’s according to ex-Spurs defender Alan Hutton, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hutton believes Romero, 26, suits Tottenham and Ange Postecoglu’s style down to the ground.
Football Insider revealed (June 22) that Tottenham have no intention of caving into Real Madrid or any other club planning to prise star defender Romero away this summer.
The Argentinian defender has become a mainstay in Spurs’ starting eleven since making the move from Italian side Atalanta in 2021 having made 98 appearances and popping up with six goals.
Romero has had rash moments while at Spurs, receiving 28 yellow cards and four red cards during his time in North London.
Tottenham need to keep ahold of Cristian Romero
Together with Dutch centre-back partner Micky van de Ven, Spurs have a rapid duo perfectly suited to Postecoglu’s high-press.
“I think the fee would be huge”, Hutton told Football Insider.
“If you think about what Crystal Palace want for Marc Guehi, around £70 million, I know he’s young and he’s had a brilliant Euros, I really like him as a player.
“I know Romero can be rash at times, that is what it is, but I think for what he does, his recovery tackles, he just suits Tottenham.
“I think they’d be talking about that same mark (£70 million) and if they don’t hit that I don’t think they’ll want to sell.

“He’s such an important player for Tottenham next to Van de Ven, I think they complement each other.
“To lose Romero at this stage of the transfer window going into the first game of the season would be an absolute nightmare for the manager.”
