Tottenham told to replace Eric Dier after ’embarrassing’ thing pundit has spotted
Tottenham must replace Eric Dier in January if they are to have any hope of finishing in the top four.
That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the defender’s future.
Dier, 28, started as Tottenham drew 2-2 with Brentford on Boxing Day,
The England international was ridiculed for his performance after shanking the ball out for a Brentford corner while under little pressure from the home side.
Brentford scored from the resulting set piece, putting Spurs 2-0 down with 35 minutes left to play.
McManus was less than impressed with Dier’s performance and claims he should not be in contention to start Premier League games.
“I mean, that was embarrassing,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.
“He’s under absolutely no pressure and he gets it all wrong. That’s just one example of bad defending that you will have seen if you watched the game like me.
“I think Tottenham need to go out and do better. This defensive record they have, always conceding first, they aren’t going to get away with it forever.
“Kane has been bailing them out and he did it again on Boxing Day. Players like Dier aren’t going to get them into the Champions League.
“He shouldn’t be starting. These individual errors are going to be the death of them.”

Dier has started all but one of Spurs’ Premier League games this season.
He also started all six of the club’s Champions League group stage games as Spurs qualified for the knockout stages.
