Tottenham told to seal deal for Eric Dier ally after Antonio Conte wish list reported – expert

Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to push forward in their pursuit of Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 23-year-old could form a formidable backline alongside Eric Dier and Cristian Romero next season.

Tottenham are expected to be in the market for defensive reinforcements when the transfer window re-opens.

According to Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, via Sport Witness (20 May), Antonio Conte has put Bastoni at the top of his shopping list ahead of the summer window.

Bastoni helped Conte’s Inter Milan win the Serie A title in the 2020-21 campaign.

His contract at the San Siro runs until the summer of 2024.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the potential arrival, Robinson said: “Bastoni is the one.

“The way [Fabio] Paratici and Conte know that market that is a deal they could get done.

“Bastoni could slot into that left centre-half role perfectly.

“Eric Dier has been so much improved this season. He has really matured under Conte.

“Romero is the best defender they have got but Dier has made a real case to be alongside him next season again. He looks like a well-rounded defender now. He has finally settled on a position. In a back three he looks great.

“They need a left-side one to go alongside Dier and Romero. You add Bastoni and all of a sudden Spurs have a back three that would rival the top teams.”
