Tottenham told to complete James Maddison signing after talks update - expert

Tottenham should go all out to sign Leicester City midfielder James Maddison next year, according to Paul Robinson.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former White Hart Lane number one has “changed his mind” on the 25-year-old after watching him play on the right-wing this season.

Maddison has been in scintillating form this term despite Leicester’s struggles.

Sources have told Football Insider (29 September) that the Foxes star is keen on joining a Champions League club next year with Tottenham a potential destination.

The attacking midfielder, who is currently on international duty with England, is under contract at the King Power Stadium until June 2024.

According to the Leicester Mercury (19 November), Leicester have entered talks with Maddison and his representatives in an attempt to extend his current deal.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of the latest, Robinson said: “I’ve changed my mind on James Maddison.

I know I have dismissed it previously and said he wouldn’t fit in at Spurs, but I was wrong. Now that I’ve seen him playing on the right-hand side for Leicester I really think he’d be an asset to Spurs.

Look at the lack of creativity in the midfield at Spurs. Maddison couldn’t play in the centre-midfielder but he could add a lot from the right-hand side. Spurs are crying out for creativity.

I now think that Maddison could take Spurs to the next level. He is versatile, he could play out wide or behind [Harry] Kane.

Conte has to make room for a player like Maddison. He could be the spark Spurs need moving forward.”
