Tottenham told to sign James Maddison after £60m update – pundit
Noel Whelan has backed Tottenham to beat off interest from Arsenal to sign “very intelligent” Leicester midfielder James Maddison.
The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 25-year-old would “suit Spurs down to the ground”.
According to The Sun (9 April), Tottenham have entered the race to sign Maddison and are set for a summer battle with bitter rivals Arsenal.
The report claims manager Antonio Conte is a big fan of the England international, who is valued at £60million.
Maddison has notched 13 goals and nine assists for Leicester this term – his best-ever scoring season for the Foxes.
When asked if the midfielder would be a good addition for Spurs, Whelan told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury: “Absolutely.
“He’s a very intelligent attacking player. He scores goals, gets loads of assists, and he’s a player Tottenham have been crying out for.
“They got Giovani Lo Celso after Christian Eriksen left – that never worked out. They’re really missing that midfield player who has an eye for a killer pass.
“He’s proved he can do it in the Premier League by being a very important piece of the puzzle for Leicester.
“I think he would suit Tottenham down to the ground. With that front three in front of him, they could go to the next level with him.”

Maddison is under contract at the King Power Stadium until June 2024.
He has scored 40 goals and provided 29 assists in 161 appearances for Leicester since joining in 2018.
