Tottenham transfer news: Ange Postecoglou ‘can sign who he wants’ after Levy U-turn – Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Ange Postecoglou will be given the backing he wants at Tottenham after a strong start at the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested Spurs are “not far away” from the top and could start a recruitment drive after a U-turn from Daniel Levy.

Previous Tottenham managers including Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte spoke publicly of their disappointment about a lack of backing in the transfer market.

However, Postecoglou was given no fewer than nine new signings after arriving last summer (2023) and Spurs were one of the only active sides in January, adding two new stars to the ranks.

Postecoglou to be given huge transfer backing – ‘they’re not far away from the top’, says Wyness

Tottenham sit fourth in the Premier League and as a result, are well-placed to return to the Champions League for the 2024-25 campaign.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Ange has got the fans’ backing now.

“I think if he tells the board he wants a player, he is now in a position where he will get them.

“There’s been Conte, Pochettino at Spurs – but they haven’t got what they wanted.

“But now with Postecoglou, I think Levy will back him. They’re not that far away.

“They have a few really quality players. If they bring in a few more, they will be right up there.

“It’s a very exciting time to be a Spurs fan, and I’m happy they’re seeing progress after a tough few years.”
