Tottenham trio not with pre-season squad as summer moves beckon
Tottenham Hotspur have revealed their squad for this summer’s pre-season tour of Hong Kong and Korea, with three notable absentees.
The Lilywhites are looking for a drastic improvement on their 17th-place finish in the Premier League last season, with that costing Ange Postecoglou his job despite a Europa League win that sealed Champions League qualification.
Thomas Frank is now in charge, and the Dane has been busy strengthening his squad, signing Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, while Mathys Tel and Kevin Danso have both made their loans permanent.
Spurs have had a mixed start to pre-season, beating Reading 2-0 before draws with Wycombe (2-2) and Luton (0-0).
Young Spurs trio to get loan moves
Things will now go up a notch for Tottenham, who travel to Asia for high-profile friendlies against North London rivals Arsenal and Newcastle United, before going to Germany to face Bayern Munich.
After that, it’s a shot at another trophy as Tottenham take on PSG in the Uefa Super Cup.
Spurs released their squad for the Asian tour on Sunday (27 July), and there were plenty of big names on the list, including key players like Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke and even Son Heung-min — whose future looks uncertain.
However, Destiny Udogie, Kota Takai and Manor Solomon will all remain behind as they receive treatment, while Radu Dragusin, Dejan Kulusevski and Bryan Gil are also continuing their rehabilitation.
Most notably, however, was the absence of young talents Mikey Moore, Alfie Devine and Dane Scarlett, with Spurs confirming the players ‘have been granted permission not to travel in order to explore potential opportunities for loan moves’.

Football Insider previously revealed that Spurs had decided to let Moore leave on loan this summer in a bid to aid the 17-year-old’s development.

Spurs to splash Champions League cash
Tottenham fans have been angered by the club’s failure to get a deal for Morgan Gibbs-White over the line, with the England international now signing a new contract with Nottingham Forest.
However, it’s a long summer and there will be plenty more targets for the Lilywhites to pursue.
In fact, Thomas Frank could have a warchest available to him, with football finance expert Dan Plumley backing Spurs to spend big thanks to their return to the Champions League.
“I think a lot of this activity at Spurs is being driven by the Champions League,” Plumley told Football Insider.
“The new manager, of course, is important as well, and he will want some say on changing that squad moving forward.
“Those are the two big developments with Spurs at the minute. They’re in that ballpark of, if you are going to make a big splash in the transfer market for one of those clubs, you’ve got to be talking like £150-200m spend just to get players in the market that you would expect to be competing for.
“So that kind of stacks up with that, and if you look at some of the fees we’ve seen, I think the best way to caveat that is that that’s the Champions League money and that’s what it can do.
“It can enable you to go and spend £100-150m because that’s your prize money that you’re going to get guaranteed for being in that competition this season.”
