Tottenham and West Ham set to be beaten to signing by Serie A giants
Premier League duo Tottenham and West Ham are set to be beaten to Jonathan David’s signature by an Italian club.
Speaking on the latest episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Pete O’Rourke revealed what his sources have told him about the race for the Lille striker.
David is out of contract with the French Ligue 1 side this summer, having scored 25 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions this season.
Both Tottenham and West Ham have expressed an interest in signing David but face competition for his services.

Napoli ‘pushing’ to sign David amid Spurs and West Ham interest
The Canada international has proven his quality by scoring 16 goals in Ligue 1 this season, and could be set to prove his worth elsewhere in Europe.

Appearances | 31 |
Goals | 16 |
Assists | 5 |
Speaking on Inside Track, O’Rourke said: “I’d fancy Jonathan David to make a move to Italy on a free. I think Napoli seem to be the ones that are really pushing for the Canadian international. So I think there’s more possibility of them playing in Serie A than the Premier League next season.”
Napoli could win the Serie A title this season, but Antonio Conte is seemingly keen to bolster his forward line ahead of next term.
West Ham eye move for Brighton goalkeeper
News that West Ham are set to miss out on David amid interest from Serie A title challengers Napoli comes as a serious blow to Hammers boss Graham Potter.
Since taking the dugout duties at the London Stadium, the Englishman has overseen just four wins in 17 attempts, enduring five draws and eight losses in the process.
It is therefore evident that Potter must enjoy a strong transfer window as he looks to steer West Ham to a more positive Premier League campaign next term.
The East London outfit sit just 15th in the top-flight ahead of Sunday’s clash with Nottingham Forest, even though they finished ninth under David Moyes’ stewardship last season.
Meanwhile, as Potter looks to bolster his ranks this summer, West Ham have set their sights on a move for Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, who has previously enjoyed loan stints with the likes of Hull City, Lincoln, and Walsall.
