Tottenham hit by major 'setback' as 'critical' behind-the-scenes figure quits - Kieran Maguire
It is a major “setback” for Tottenham to lose their long-standing head of communications.
That is according to finance boffin Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Daily Mail reported Simon Felstein’s exit on 11th July.
Felstein has been with Spurs for 15 years and staff are claimed to have reacted with “shock” when made aware of his departure via email last week.
As per his LinkedIn profile, Felstein was charged with “managing the reputation of the Club” through “global media relations, issue and crisis management.”
He was also part of the project management team that oversaw the move to the new stadium in 2019.
Maguire highlighted the crucial work of a communications director and why it will be a blow for Spurs to lose their PR guru.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “Football is both front-page and back-page news so you have to have your finger on the pulse 24/7.
“Having good lines of communication and being able to deal with stories as they evolve in a professional manner is critical from the perspective of the club’s image.
“The fans are very sensitive to the image of the club. We’ve seen Spurs get it spectacularly wrong with the Super League and taking furlough.
“They were on the back foot and had to negotiate their way out of it and take as little damage as possible.
“Given Spurs have made some pretty clunky decisions, he’s done very well. His job is damage limitation to a certain extent.
“Given all that, there’s no doubt this is a setback for them.”
