Tottenham ‘will have more money to buy players if takeover is finalised’

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has long been searching for new investment at the club amid a backdrop of fan unrest and poor on-pitch performance.

It was widely reported last year Levy has held talks to sell a minority stake in Spurs at a £3.75billion valuation.

The Guardian reported on 12 February that Qatari investors want to take control of Tottenham, but the proposed takeover could take the form of a phased buyout.

The newspaper claims Levy would be offered a management contract to run the club under one model being considered by the Middle Eastern consortium.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has suggested why a potential takeover “won’t make a difference” to Tottenham’s fortunes.

Tottenham ‘must release the pursestrings’ after takeover

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted Tottenham will only see success if they “release the pursestrings” following a takeover.

Deloitte’s 2025 Money League revealed Spurs have a wages to turnover ratio of 42%, far below many of their ‘big six’ rivals.

Wyness insisted that figure must be increased to around 70% if the club are to see success.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “It hasn’t been a lack of money or funds stopping Spurs from succeeding.

“It’s been a lack of money invested in the squad.

“You’ve got a wage to turnover ratio of about 42%, it should really be at around 70% to get to a level of expenditure required for success.

“There’ll be more money if a takeover goes through, but until they release the pursestrings and look at a higher quality of player – it won’t make a difference.

“There is already enough money at Tottenham.

“Of course, they’ll be able to spend more, but I question the way it’s being spent at the moment.

“The jury’s still out for me in terms of more money coming into Spurs. It will only make a difference if it is spent right.”

Liverpool ‘very keen’ on Tottenham star

With Tottenham struggling in the bottom half of the Premier League, Football Insider revealed on Saturday (15 February) that Liverpool are “very keen” on signing Micky van de Ven this summer.

The Reds want a new centre-back even if Virgil van Dijk signs a new contract to extend his stay at Anfield beyond the end of this season.

Van de Ven is hugely rated by Arne Slot, who knows a lot about the 23-year-old’s capabilities and character from their respective backgrounds in the Netherlands.
