Tottenham “will throw the kitchen sink” at Brendan Rodgers in a bid to prize him away from Leicester City.
That is the view of former Leeds and Middlesbrough striker Noel Whelan, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about who could succeed Jose Mourinho at Spurs after Julian Nagelsmann’s move to Bayern Munich was announced.
This site revealed on Monday that Daniel Levy is lining up a move for Rodgers and believes he can be persuaded to quit the King Power Stadium for north London.
Sky Sports claim the Foxes boss has “no interest” in talking to Tottenham about their vacant managerial position.
Whelan expects Spurs to go all out to try and persuade the Norther Irishman, who was Daniel Levy’s “preferred choice” to become manager in 2012, to change his mind.
“I think Spurs will throw the kitchen sink at Rodgers,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“He is probably the best British manager at the moment because he ticks every single box in my opinion. He has the experience, he is a great tactician, he plays the right way, is very intelligent and is a great man-manager. Rodgers looks like a manager you would want to play for.
“I would say he is the best manager out there you could potentially get right now.
“He has had a superb season with Leicester. They are in the FA Cup final, should qualify for the Champions League and for me he could even be the manager of the season.
“I always thought Rodgers was one of the best in this country and he has proved that this season.
“If they can get him, he would be a huge asset for them.
“But can they prize him away from Leicester who have been a more successful club than Tottenham over the last decade?”
