‘Tottenham’s Bryan Mbeumo hijack is close – Brentford teammate could join him’
Thomas Frank has been appointed at Tottenham and could immediately raid old club Brentford for star man Bryan Mbeumo.
The Cameroon international, 25, had been expected to join Man United this summer but the BBC reported last week (13 June) that Spurs are also keen.
United reportedly submitted a bid of £45million plus £10million in add-ons earlier this month.
Mbeumo has played 242 times for Frank, scoring 70 goals – with the forward playing a big role in promotion to the Premier League back in the 2020-21 campaign.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Tottenham now have a “massive advantage” in the race for his signature, and claimed Frank could swoop for another Brentford star.

Tottenham have ‘massive advantage’ in Mbeumo race, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he believes a double deal for Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa will make a “big difference” at Spurs.
The duo combined for 40 goals across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign as Brentford finished 10th in the Premier League.
Wyness also claimed Frank’s reputation will allow him to attract further arrivals to Tottenham.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Thomas Frank is a massive advantage for Spurs.
“People were almost talking as though it was a nailed on deal for Man United and all of sudden that talk has paused considerably.
“Frank was really liked in the dressing room at Brentford, he had a very good man management style.
“Mbuemo certainly succeeded under him and obviously he’s got a lot to thank Frank for. I think Wissa coming in as well could be another one. If Frank can get those two from Brentford, then that’d be brilliant for him. I think that will make a big difference.
“That’s one of the factors that would have made them switch to Frank as a potential target, as a manager.
“Look, he deserves all the success. He’s handled himself very, very well. He’ll be a difference in terms of the way he’s going to handle the media and things internally. I do think he’s got a steely determination.
“I like Thomas Frank, I rate him, and I think he’s going to do well at Spurs. But he’s got his plate full.
“I think he will be able to attract players given the way his reputation has been at Brentford so far.”

Tottenham could accept ‘very lucrative’ Son bid
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (10 June) that Tottenham could go over Frank’s head and accept a “very lucrative” bid for Heung-min Son.
The forward, 33 next month, is once again a target for Saudi Pro League clubs.
Sources say an executive decision could be taken by the club, not prospective new manager Frank, if a lucrative offer arrives for the South Korea icon.
