Tottenham’s Cristian Romero sends ‘back home’ message amid Atletico Madrid rumours
Cristian Romero could be set to leave Tottenham this summer, with a number of clubs interested in securing the services of the defender.
The Argentinian was part of the Spurs side that beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final, to help the club claim their first piece of major silverware in 17 years.
Brennan Johnson was the hero in Bilbao, latching onto Pape Matar Sarr’s cross to score a 42nd-minute winner for the North London side.
However despite European success, Football Insider exclusively revealed that Tottenham will sack Ange Postecoglou, with a formal announcement expected in the coming days.

Romero to leave Tottenham
Postecoglou may not be the only departure from North London, as Football Insider exclusively revealed that Romero is expected to leave Tottenham this summer.
The Argentine has been at Spurs since his move from Atalanta in 2021 and, when fit, he has been one of the standout players for the Europa League champions this season.

Both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are interested in Romero, with the latter looking more likely to complete the deal, which would see the 27-year-old link up with his fellow countryman Diego Simeone.
The centre-back is on international duty with Argentina this week, as the World Champions face Chile and Colombia in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Romero took to Instagram to share a photo of himself standing in front of an Argentina mural, with the caption: “So nice to be back home.”
Europa League success papers over cracks
Football Insider Verdict
After leading Tottenham to their first major trophy since 2008, Postecoglou can count himself quite unlucky to not at least be given the summer to turn things around.
However, North London side’s domestic form has been nothing short of abysmal, and there are glaring problems in the 59-year-old’s style of play.
Postecoglou refused to budge from his philosophy, continuing with a kamikaze-style high line, even when his side were caught out time and time again.
Interestingly the Australian relented for the Europa League final, adopting a more conservative approach, which was crucial in helping them defeat Man United in Bilbao.
A club of Spurs’ size and stature should never be finishing 17th in the Premier League though, especially when you think about the financial advantage they have over some of the other teams in the league, so you can see why Daniel Levy has finally lost his patience.
