Tottenham’s Mohammed Kudus reacts to Alphonse Areola following West Ham exit

Tottenham’s new signing Mohammed Kudus has reacted to former team mate Alphonse Areola just days after he left West Ham for their London rivals.

Kudus made the controversial move from West Ham to Spurs to become Thomas Frank’s first major signing at the club for £55million.

The 24-year-old had moved to the Premier League from Ajax in 2023, when the Hammers spent £38m to land his signature.

Manager Graham Potter is now tasked with replacing one of the club’s key players ahead of his first full campaign at the London Stadium following his appointment in January.

Areola took to Instagram to share photos of West Ham in training in Germany ahead of their pre-season schedule, which Kudus liked.

The goalkeeper was the club’s number one last season, but Graham Potter is looking to sign another shot stopper following the release of Lukasz Fabianski.

Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez and Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale have both been touted as options.

The 32-year-old joined the club permanently from PSG in 2022, and kept five Premier League clean sheets last season.

Potter needs to act and fill Kudus void

Football Insider Verdict

Kudus fell flat season under the regimes of Julien Lopetegui and Potter, but his first season at the London Stadium definitely showed the Ghanaian’s high potential.

His dribbling and technical ability added flair to West Ham’s attacks, making them a more dangerous outfit when he played.

West Ham relied too heavily on captain Jarrod Bowen for goals and assists last season, and with Kudus now departed, Potter needs to dip into the transfer market.

The Hammers have been quiet this summer despite their disappointing season and inability to build on the success of the David Moyes era.

Harvey Elliott has been linked with a move to East London, but the Liverpool midfielder has plenty of suitors elsewhere following his success with England at the Under-21 Euros.

To help with targeting new additions the club have appointed scout Antonio Tramontano, previously of Fiorentina, who apparently comes to West Ham with a ‘big reputation’.

Potter though will not be able to wait long for new signings as he wants to overhaul his squad to compete higher up the table next season.
