Tottenham’s new owner to match Sir Jim Ratcliffe after takeover development – Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed any new Tottenham investor is likely to come in as a minority owner initially.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested potential Spurs buyers will copy the plan used by Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Man United.

Tottenham published their 2022-23 accounts last week (3 April) revealing a club-record turnover of £550million but an overall loss of £87million.

Chairman Daniel Levy published a statement revealing that the club are “in discussions with prospective investors”.

Spurs are currently 87% owned by Enic – who are headed by Joe Lewis, with Levy also owning a minority share in the company.

Tottenham next owner to match Ratcliffe as Levy confirms discussions

Ratcliffe and his INEOS outfit purchased a 25% stake in Man United earlier this year and has taken charge of footballing operations at Old Trafford.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think something like the arrangement Sir Jim Ratcliffe has at Man United would be what they would do.

“A potential owner would come in with a minority stake and then have the first right of refusal to buy control at the appropriate time.

“That could be three, four, five years down the road.

“But I think that is the kind of deal that will be done.”
