Tottenham’s priority January signing revealed – sources

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is desperate to bring a new centre-back to the club in January, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed Spurs had been keen to land a new defensive signing in the summer window but could not complete a deal for their top targets.

Injury to Micky van de Ven has since forced Postecoglou to move Radu Dragusin into the starting lineup but the Romania international has not impressed.

Tottenham are short in the centre-back area despite keeping veteran Ben Davies on past the end of the summer transfer window and will move to rectify the problem area in January.

Van de Ven is set to return to action following the international break this month and will resume his partnership with World Cup winner Cristian Romero.

The Lilywhites are still active in three competitions, which could rise to four when they enter the FA Cup at the third round stage in January.

Tottenham plot defender signing in January

Postecoglou’s side have scored an impressive 23 goals in 11 Premier League games, the most of any top-flight side.

However, their defensive record is not as spotless which means they are languishing in 10th and 12 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.
