Tottenham’s stance on Mathys Tel exit revealed amid transfer whispers
Tottenham are reluctant to allow in-form Mathys Tel to leave the club in the January transfer window despite growing interest from Serie A giants Roma.
That is according to former Tottenham and Man United senior scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected at his former clubs, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Thomas Frank has no plans to weaken his squad in the mid-season window.
This comes after Brown told Football Insider on 11 November that Tottenham are concerned after Randal Kolo Munai’s injury he picked up against Man United.
Meanwhile, Dominic Solanke had surgery on his ankle in October to resolve a long-term issue, and has missed the majority of the season through injury.
As a result, Tel, who signed last summer from Bayern Munich after an initial loan deal, remains one of the only natural and fit strikers under Frank and is seen as an important part of their plans for the rest of the season.

Tottenham have no plans to lose Mathys Tel
Tel has struggled to impress at Tottenham this season, with fans widely criticising his performances, but a goal in Spurs’ draw with Man United could kickstart his form.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Spurs will not entertain talks about the Frenchman’s exit in January due to his role in the squad.
“I do think there are a few concerns about Tel,” he told Football Insider.
“When he came over from Bayern Munich, there were questions about why they were so willing to let him go despite how talented everybody says he is.
“But now he’s coming into the Tottenham side and he’s scored a couple of important goals.
“He’s getting more regular game time because of the injuries they’ve had, and he’s been thrown into the team with a lot of expectation on him.
“There has been some talk about Roma and teams like that looking at him, but from Tottenham’s point of view, they’re not going to let him go.

“Especially while they’ve got these injuries and a lack of depth, because if they let him go, then they’re putting themselves in a difficult position.
“I think he’s a big part of their plans, even with the question marks about him, and the manager won’t want to weaken his squad in January.”
Tottenham set sights on striker additions
Brown told Football Insider on 12 November that Tottenham will move to sign a striker due to Kolo Muani and Solanke’s ongoing injury problems.
While there are no plans in place to let Tel leave, Spurs will also aim to strengthen in his position, and have no plans to weaken the squad in January.
As a result, Tottenham have been linked with multiple attacking targets including the likes of Samu Aghehowa, Ivan Toney and even Harry Kane.

However, Brown told Football Insider on 18 November that Kane plans to stay at Bayern Munich and a return to North London is unlikely as things stand.
Football Insider revealed on 10 October that Kane could sign a new Bayern Munich contract and is prepared to commit his long-term future to the German giants.
