Traore ‘holds all the cards’ as ‘massive’ Wolves talks reported – Whelan

Noel Whelan has claimed “it would be massive” if Wolves can tie Adama Traore down to a new long-term contract.

However, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds and Middlesbrough striker said the 25-year-old “holds all the cards” in negotiations.

Traore‘s future was the subject of great speculation in the summer transfer window, with Tottenham and Leeds both reported to be interested.

However, the Wanderers’ £50million valuation for the speed machine put off potential suitors.

Birmingham Live (2nd September) have since reported that Wolves are hoping to open talks over a new contract with the winger, who has two years remaining on his current deal.

Whelan heaped praise on Traore for his transformation over the past few years.

“It would be massive if they can get him tied down to a new contract because there has been speculation every season about his future,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs. “It has not been just this summer.

“Traore is a player that has really developed at Wolves and has built on his incredible dribbling and pace. Everyone questioned his final product but he seems to have really worked on that. Now he is the complete player.

“It is a situation that Wolves need to sort out either way. You cannot have player of his quality running his contract down.

“The big question is, does he want to sign a new contract? Especially if a move could be on the cards in January or next summer. Traore holds all of the cards.

“Wolves’ fear will be that his agent has spoke with prospective buyers and his head has turned. We will have to wait and see how that goes.”
