‘Trent Alexander-Arnold is accelerating Real Madrid talks’ – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has revealed Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold is “talking a lot” with Real Madrid about a potential move in 2025.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Arne Slot will have a greater say about contract negotiations at Anfield after his “impressive” start on Merseyside.

Alexander-Arnold is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

Real Madrid are the right-back’s primary suitor and the 25-year-old is eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with the La Liga giants from 1 January.

He has come through the ranks at Liverpool and has made 325 appearances for the club, winning the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup under Jurgen Klopp.

Wyness suggested Liverpool will still be trying to tie Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk down to new deals.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “These three contract negotiations are going on very much in the background.

“Certainly, I’m hearing that Trent and Real Madrid are talking a lot at the moment.

“There’s no doubt Slot has had a great start, and he’ll have a much stronger position in these talks.

“He’s been a great replacement for Klopp so far and I’ve been very impressed with his start.

“His voice will now be heard even more on these issues as we move forward.”
