Trent-Alexander Arnold: Pundit issues ‘season-ending’ claim after Liverpool footage emerges

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold could be ruled out for the season if rushed back from his hamstring injury.

That is the view of former Sunderland and England striker Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 23-year-old’s recovery.

As relayed by Anfield Watch (25 March), Alexander-Arnold posted footage of himself using an exercise bike on his personal Instagram account as he steps up his recovery from injury.

The right-back missed Liverpool’s win over Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup quarter-final with a hamstring problem.

Phillips urged fans not to read too much into the footage of Alexander-Arnold recovering at Kirkby.

“I hope he’s back soon,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“From Liverpool’s point of view, he is a big player for them.

“Nowadays it is hard to read too much into seeing players on bikes or out on the grass because the physios get you moving straight away. You get lured into think they are not far away but that’s not necessarily the case.

“It is a good sign though. It will get the blood moving and hopefully he can return quickly after the international break.

“Look, it would be a big boost to have him fit for the run-in. But they won’t rush it because if you get it wrong with a hamstring he could be done for the season. They have to be careful not to rush him back.”
