Trent Alexander-Arnold: Pundit verdict on injury ‘destabilising’ Liverpool title bid after latest update
Kevin Phillips is adamant Liverpool can maintain their title bid even if Trent Alexander-Arnold is ruled out for the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Sunderland and England striker said Joe Gomez and James Milner could provide adequate cover for the 23-year-old even though it would be “a big blow.”
Alexander-Arnold missed Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday with a hamstring problem.
Speaking to club media (18 March), Jurgen Klopp claimed the right-back would be out for “weeks” rather than days.
According to The Athletic‘s James Pearce (21 March), Alexander-Arnold is responding well to treatment.
The club are said to be optimistic that he will be fit for most of the April schedule.
When asked how damaging Alexander-Arnold’s absence would be for the Reds, Phillips told Football Insider:
“You do not want to lose top players at this stage of the season.
“It would be a big blow to lose him for the remainder of the season. Trent is so creative and he causes so many problems with his deliveries.

Would it destabilise their title bid? I don’t think it would, personally. The likes of Joe Gomez and James Milner have shown that they can do a job in there. They have so much experience.
“It is not ideal but I think they would be fine even if Trent is out for a while. Hopefully it does not keep him out for the season though.”
