Trent Alexander-Arnold responds to Mohamed Salah after Liverpool contract news

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has responded to Mohamed Salah on social media after the Egyptian confirmed there was “no update” regarding a new contract.

Alexander-Arnold, 26, provided the assist for Luis Diaz’s 23rd-minute opener in Liverpool’s impressive 6-3 Premier League win at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium on Sunday (December 22).

Alexis Mac Allister doubled Liverpool’s lead 13 minutes later before James Maddison got one back for the home side.

Salah, 32, bagged his first of four goal involvements just ahead of half-time, playing Dominik Szoboszlai through to make it 3-1 just before half-time.

The prolific winger scored his first soon after the break before securing his brace in the 61st minute to all but secure the victory for Arne Slot’s side.

Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke scored twice, but it was too late. Diaz rounded off the scoring, thanks to another assist from Salah, with a well-taken finish from a tight angle.

Liverpool have moved four points clear of Chelsea in second after their scoreless draw with Everton in the race for the Premier League title.

Salah has carried Liverpool to the summit almost single-handedly, starting 22 of his 24 appearances across all competitions, scoring 18 goals, and providing 15 assists in 1970 minutes of action.

The Egypt international unsurprisingly leads the way in terms of Premier League goal contributions with 26, nine more than Chelsea’s Cole Palmer in second, and 11 more than Bukayo Saka.

When asked about his contract situation in his interview after the game, Salah gave a two-word response, simply saying there was “no update.”

Salah is one of three key Liverpool players, alongside Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk, who are out of contract at the end of the season.

The forward took to Instagram to celebrate their impressive win over Tottenham, to which Alexander-Arnold responded with a shaking hands emoji.

The England international has been integral to everything Liverpool have done this season, starting 20 of his 21 appearances across all competitions, scoring zero goals, and providing five assists in 1591 minutes on the field.

Liverpool will host Leicester in the late kick-off on Boxing Day (December 26) as they seek to keep their good form up.
