Trevoh Chalobah poised to quit Chelsea after ‘surprise’ twist – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah is bound for the exit door after his “surprising” recent treatment.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested there can only be a “behind-the-scenes” reason for leaving him out of the pre-season tour squad.

Chalobah is not part of the Chelsea squad which has travelled to take on Wrexham, Celtic, Club America, Man City and Real Madrid in the United States.

Speaking about the decision, new Blues boss Enzo Maresca admitted the centre-back’s omission was a “sad decision but we have to take the decision”.

Chalobah’s axing represents a significant twist after he was involved heavily in the final stages of the 2023-24 season under Mauricio Pochettino.

Wyness shocked by Chalobah treatment at Chelsea – ‘I rate him highly’

He has made 80 senior appearances for his boyhood club, where he is under contract until June 2028.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’m very surprised.

“I’ve looked at him closely, I rate him highly – he almost joined us at Villa when Roberto Di Matteo was in charge.

“He’s a great talent and I think he had a good season.

“There must be a reason behind the scenes that we’re not seeing. He’s not one that Maresca would leave behind willingly.

“It’s a surprising situation.

“It looks like he’s going to move on, and I’d recommend him highly to any other club.

“He’s one to watch unless there is a big injury issue I’m not aware of.”
