Trezeguet exit verdict issued by pundit after journalist’s Aston Villa update – ‘something’s wrong’

Frank McAvennie has backed Aston Villa to sell Trezeguet this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker urged Steven Gerrard to “cut his losses” with the 27-year-old.

Journalist Matt Maher revealed (30 June) that Villa have agreed a fee of around £4.25million with Turkish side Trabzonspor for the attacker.

However, it is said that personal terms are yet to be agreed between the player and club.

The Egyptian’s contract at Villa Park has just 12 months left to run.

The winger joined the Villans from Turkish side Kasimpasa in 2019 for around £9million.

When asked if it was the right decision for Villa to take a loss on Trezeguet, McAvennie told Football Insider: “Yes.

“If he’s not matched up to the standards Steven Gerrard has set then he won’t have him and he’ll cut his losses.

Sometimes players are not playing well and they can’t be bothered, it’s better to just get them out the club and take half the money, get something back for him.

I don’t know the boy but he’s a good player. Why he’s not getting games, there must be something wrong.

Take a loss and get him out the club that’s what I’d do.

Trezeguet played 64 games for Villa, scoring nine times and providing five assists.
