Trippier will be ‘great signing’ for Newcastle as £12m bid reported – La Liga expert
Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier “would be a great signing” for Newcastle United, according to Kevin Campbell.
The former Arsenal striker, who delivered weekly punditry for La Liga TV last season, told Football Insider the 31-year-old “is available for cheap money” considering his ability.
This site revealed (15 December) that talks are underway with Atletico Madrid over a deal for the right-back, who has recently recovered from a shoulder injury.

Trippier is keen to get the deal done early in the January window and is not fazed by the Magpies’ position in the Premier League.
According to Fabrizio Romano (15 December), Manchester United had a bid of around £12million rejected for the England international in the summer.
Campbell believes Trippier is the quality of signing needed if Eddie Howe’s side are to avoid relegation this season.
“Now we are talking,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“He would be a great signing. He would bring so much to the table. He’s experience at the top level, an England international, knows the manager and is available for cheap money. It is cheap considering his ability.
“Get him in and then look at who else is coming in.
“At the end of the day, Newcastle’s defence is not good enough. It’s a problem area. Trippier is the level of player who needs to come in if they are going to survive this season.”

The Magpies are currently 19th in the Premier League table.
They travel to Liverpool tonight.
