Twenty-plus Newcastle stars to be sold as Staveley footage emerges - pundit

More than 20 Newcastle United stars won’t be at the club in a year’s time as Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi wield the axe, according to Paul Robinson.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper said he expects only three or four players to survive a squad overhaul at St. James’ Park.

As relayed by footage from the club’s Twitter, Staveley and Ghodoussi met with Steve Bruce and his squad at their training ground on Monday.

Bruce is expected be relieved of his duties by the Magpies’ new owners over the course of the next week.

Robinson believes most of the 25 senior players listed in the Newcastle squad will follow Bruce through the exit door next year.

“There needs to be wholesale changes to that squad,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“I would be very surprised if any more than three of four of those players are still there in a few years time.

“Everyone at Newcastle will be looking over their shoulder with that type of investment coming in.

“The manager is of course the focus right now but it will be the players next year. I think there will gradually be a huge, huge overhaul of playing staff.

“There needs to be a certain level of playing to keep them safe this season but beyond that… I think in two years time there will be a completely different team out there.”
