West Ham fans react on Twitter to potential club-record signing

By Joe Nelson

West Ham finally completed the loan-to-buy signing of Simone Zaza on Sunday – and supporters reacted with joy on Twitter.

The Hammers confirmed the arrival of the 25-year-old, who has joined on a season-long loan from Juventus that has the potential to smash their transfer record.

The deal will cost West Ham £5million this season and includes an obligation to make the move permanent for a further £20million if he makes a certain amount of appearances.

Zaza becomes Slaven Bilic’s 11th signing of the summer transfer window, adding to the likes of Sofiane Feghouli, Havard Nordtveit and Andre Ayew, who became the club’s record signing when he joined from Swansea for £20.5million.

The need for a striker was obvious for West Ham fans, as injuries to new signing Ayew and recently Andy Carroll have left the Hammers bare up front.

Despite playing second-fiddle to the likes of Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala last season, Zaza had eight goals to his name last season in 24 appearances in all competitions last campaign.

However, despite having a good tournament, the striker will be remembered for one thing, that being blazing a penalty wildly over the bar after an extravagant run-up in Italy’s shoot-out defeat to Germany in the quarter-finals.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to the move:
