Rangers fans left worried about one player after draw v Partick

By James Black

Rangers captain Lee Wallace went off injured against Partick Thistle on Friday night and fans are worried he may miss the Old Firm game next weekend.

Wallace went off with an apparent groin injury only 12 minutes into the Light Blues’ 2-2 draw at Firhill.

The Gers could have drawn level with league leaders Celtic with a big enough win against Alan Archibald’s side.

On-loan Cardiff City defender Declan John replaced Wallace and the Welshman had a decent debut for Pedro Caixinha’s side.

John looked to get forward from defence and linked-up fairly well with Josh Windass down the left-hand side.

Wallace has made 259 appearances for the Ibrox club since his £1million move from Hearts in 2011 and was appointed captain in 2015 by then-manager Mark Warburton.

With Celtic making the short journey to Ibrox next Saturday, Gers fans are hopeful their captain can recover in time.

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Declan John would be the likely choice to replace Wallace if he misses any games – Rangers face Partick again in midweek in the League Cup – and fans seemed pleased with the Welshman.

With two big games coming over the next eight days, Pedro Caixinha will be hoping his captain doesn’t miss too much game time.
