‘Two of best midfielders to have ever walked the planet’ – Exclusive: Pundit’s Ryan Jack claim
Frank McAvennie has hailed the huge influence of Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister on Ryan Jack and claimed that the Rangers midfielder is learning from the very best.
The former Celtic and West Ham striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the Gers manager and assistant manager are two of the best central midfielders to have ever played the game.
Jack has enjoyed his finest season in blue since joining from Aberdeen in 2017 despite missing a large chunk of the season through injury.
The central midfielder’s 38 appearances across all competitions yielded five goals and four assists before the Scottish Premiership was curtailed.
McAvennie suggested Gerrard and McAllister’s knowledge of how to play in midfield is a huge bonus to any club they manage in the future as well as the Gers.
“Ryan Jack, when he has two midfield players like Steven Gerrard and Gary McAllister coaching him, he is only going to learn and get better,” he told Football Insider.
“Two of the best central midfield players to have ever walked the planet.
“He will be getting great advice and is learning off the best.
“It will be a massive plus for anyone that gets Stevie G and Gary Mac in the future because the two of them are so knowledgeable about the game. It is the same with Frank Lampard at Chelsea.”
Gerrard and McAllister played together at Liverpool from 2000 to 2002 and won the treble under Gerard Houllier in 2001.
Between them they have over 1200 club appearances and 264 goals.
In other Rangers news, Noel Whelan has told Football Insider that striker’s comment are a “come and get me plea” to Gerrard.
