Darren Bent claims that Leeds United may have to splash out £50million to pull off the “perfect signings” of Brentford stars Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Tottenham and England striker believes the Algeria international could be the ideal replacement for Pablo Hernandez at Elland Road.
The Athletic report that Leeds are keen on signing both Watkins and Benrahma and believe the latter could be available for less than £20million after the Bees’ play-off heartbreak on Tuesday.
Thomas Frank saw his side slip to a 2-0 defeat to Fulham at Wembley to leave him and his men facing another season in the Championship.
Bent believes that while the pair would be outstanding additions to the squad at Elland Road, the Whites could be forced to splash out £50million to get them both on board.
Bent told Football Insider: “With Brentford not going up, two great signings – I mean that would take some kind of bid, you’re talking about two of their best players in Ollie Watkins and Benrahma.
“That would take some replacing from Brentford’s perspective so they’ll have to command huge transfer fees, I’m talking maybe in excess of £50million for the both of them.
“It would be difficult but listen, they’d be two perfect signings. I’d love to see Benrahma in the Premier League – perfect replacement for Hernandez – and Ollie Watkins, him and Bamford could push each other.”
Benrahma, who played on the left of Brentfords front three during the 2019/20 campaign, netted 17 goals and contributed 10 assists for the Bees.
Watkins meanwhile was also in fine form with 26 strikes in 50 appearances.
