Tyrick Mitchell exceptional, £12.5m star woeful – Crystal Palace’s winners and losers vs Brighton
Crystal Palace hosted Brighton in a Premier League showdown at Selhurst Park, as several players were looking to impress.
Last time out, Palace secured a 2-0 victory over Brentford, while Brighton beat Leeds United 3-0 at the AMEX Stadium.
With only one point and one place separating the two sides in the table, it set up a fascinating encounter in South London, yet Crystal Palace and Brighton didn’t live up to expectations.
On an afternoon of missed chances and wastefulness in the final third, here are the Eagles’ winners and losers from the 0-0 draw.

Winners
Tyrick Mitchell
In Oliver Glasner’s exciting system, Tyrick Mitchell is an outlet down the left flank, offering defensive solidity and an injection of energy in attack.
Mitchell was unfortunate to miss out on Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad as one of the only natural left-backs at his disposal, and he impressed at home to Brighton.
The 26-year-old was up against the lively and skilful Yankuba Minteh on Sunday afternoon, and he pocketed the Gambia international.
Minteh struggled to get past the defensively solid Mitchell, who matched him for pace and timed his tackles to perfection.
Adam Wharton
To the surprise of no one, Adam Wharton continued his incredible form for Palace, showcasing his impeccable footballing brain and passing range to control the midfield for his side.
Wharton was named in Tuchel’s latest England squad, becoming an influential player on the international stage, while maintaining relentless consistency for his club.
Adam Wharton stats vs Brighton
66 minutes played
1 successful dribble
1 foul drawn
3 ground duels won
2 recoveries
18 passes completed
The 21-year-old is a level ahead of everyone on the pitch and earned a well-earned rest after being substituted in the 66th minute for Yeremy Pino.

Losers
Ismaila Sarr
Palace forward Ismaila Sarr is usually influential in the final third, utilising his pace, power and ruthlessness to devastating effect.
Sarr was outstanding during Palace’s 3-1 win over AZ Alkmaar, scoring a brace, but his end product left much to be desired against the Seagulls.
Glasner’s men created space and opportunities for the Senegal speedster on multiple occasions, but he lacked any decisiveness and was uncharacteristically wasteful.
Sarr, who cost the Eagles a bargain £12.5million from Marseille in 2024, endured a disappointing afternoon.
Daniel Munoz
Daniel Munoz is one of the Premier League’s best attacking right-backs, possessing incredible energy and quality down the flank.
However, during their goalless draw against Brighton, the 29-year-old was pegged back by Brighton and wasn’t impactful in attack.
Munoz didn’t complete a dribble, any key passes and only one accurate cross and would have left the pitch feeling disappointed.
